Love or hate them, but there’s no denying that Marvel has one hell of an output right now in terms of content. Detailed movie plans arriving in several phases, a connected animated universe and an upcoming jump into Netflix territory have all resulted in various properties being licensed. But don’t expect Daredevil to be one of the happier projects around.
Speaking to Heat Vision, Daredevil star Charlie Cox explained how he prepared for the role and how Daredevil would be different from the usual Marvel output:
I’ve read comics after comics after comics — I’ve never read so many comics in my life, and we’re finding moments from the comics to reference in the show. We’re trying to make a show that’s new and much, much darker than anything I’ve ever seen Marvel do before.
So what makes Darkdevil Daredevil so dark? According to Cox, it’s the nature of the man without fear that makes him edgier than Thor or Captain America:
The concept that he can’t stop. He’s going out and he’s taking the law into his own hands, and he doesn’t know if he can stop. He might be addicted to it.
And hopefully that darkness can be reflected within the Netflix framework of the show. That gives Daredevil more freedom than your usual made for TV series, when it arrives in 2015.
