Seventh Son (8)

It feels like I’ve been writing about Seventh Son, an adaptation of popular YA fantasy novel “The Spook’s Apprentice”, for years now already. Oh, wait. I actually have been writing about it for years! The Jeff Bridges led flick finished its principal photography in back in 2012 already, but was then shelved when VFX company Rhythm & Hues went bankrupt (famously just after winning an Oscar for their work on Life of Pi) and couldn’t complete their film’s digital effects. Eventually they were bailed out temporarily by Legendary Pictures, so that work could be completed, but as soon as that was done, other delays reared their heads. A lot delays.

So here we are, two years later, and the film is apparently finally ready to be released. And to prove it, we have a brand new trailer for the film, which admittedly still looks to have lots of potential with its cracking cast and its sword- and spell-play. And dragons. Also, Bridges talking like he just came from the dentist.

In a time of enchantments when legends and magic collide, the sole remaining warrior of a mystical order (Oscar winner Jeff Bridges) travels to find a prophesized hero born with incredible powers, the last Seventh Son (Ben Barnes). Torn from his quiet life as a farmhand, the unlikely young hero embarks on a daring adventure with his battle-hardened mentor to vanquish a dark queen (Julianne Moore) and the army of supernatural assassins she has dispatched against their kingdom. Based on the book “The Spook’s Apprentice” by Joseph Delaney.

Seventh Son also stars Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou and Julianne Moore. It is scheduled for release on – *holding thumbs*, *makes sign of the cross* – February 6, 2015.
