Warner Bros’ answer to the behemoth that is Marvel is the much anticipated Suicide Squad, a movie that has some serious A-list talent. Take for instance Will Smith, Margot Robbie (drool), Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne. Tom Hardy was also supposed to be on that list but due to work conflicts he no longer is, according a new report from THR.

Apparently Hardy, who was to play the anti-hero group’s leader Rick Flagg, has prior commitments with the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu produced drama The Revenant (that also stars Leonardo DiCaprio – and which we highlighted yesterday). All would have been well had the shoot finished when it was planned to, but with it running overtime Hardy looks to be… Wait for it… In a hard place! BOOM!

Suicide Squad is scheduled to start filming in mid-April which doesn’t help with Hardy’s commitment to the post-apocalyptic Mad Max: Fury Road which has a May 15 opening; not even actors of his calibre can be in two places at once.

There is some potentially good news for the Warner Bros. film though in the form of Jake Gyllenhaal who recently blew my mind in the dark drama Nightcrawler (and was sadly snubbed in the Oscar Nominations). He has been offered the role of Flagg but as yet has not accepted. That may be because he is doing some ‘real’ acting on stage in the Broadway play Constellations which only finishes in March. Personally, I think he would fit the role perfectly!

Suicide Squad is set to assault us on 5 August, 2016.
