As we heard not too long ago, the long-awaited feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s epic fantasy-western epic The Dark Tower has been filming down here in Cape Town, and we managed to get some set pics showing Idris Elba as the heroic lead, the gunslinger Roland. But a hero is only as good as his villain, which in this case is the evil sorcerer Randal Flagg aka The Man In Black, being played by Matthew McConaughey. And thanks to the folks at Just Jared we now know what he will look like as well. Spoiler alert: He’s a man. In black.

I’m not too sure what’s creepier: That plunging neckline or McConaughey’s manicure job. Oh, you didn’t notice the nails?

The set pics were taken in New York on Friday, where McConaughey – who now also sports a fitting black hair dye job – was busy shooting a scene on location. As revealed recently, this movie will not be a straightforward adaptation of the book series, and in fact there are even very strong hints that it may actually be a sequel that picks up right at the end of the last novel! If you’re confused by that, well then go read the article at the previously mentioned link. But just be warned: there are HUGE SPOILERS there if you have not read the books yet.

You can check out all the set pics over on Just Jared.

The Dark Tower is directed by Nikolaj Arcel from a script he co-wrote with Akiva Goldsman. It also stars Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbey Lee and Fran Kranz. It is scheduled for release on February 17, 2017.
