Everybody has bad days. Just ask the guys at COPE and Agang. Oh, you don’t know who that is? Exactly. But bad days are not just reserved for lame duck political parties though, they happen to all of us. And sometimes, as this trailer for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day shows, they happen to your entire family at once.

And most of the time they will respond with screaming. And falling down. And acting dumb. Okay, so that may not sound too promising, but at least Alexander (I’m not typing that whole name game) boasts a respectable cast in Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner and Logan Lerman, who makes some of this actually look a bit funny.

Based on Judith Viorst’s 1972 illustrated children’s classic, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his brother, sister, mom and dad all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day stars Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, Logan Lerman, Dylan Minnette, Kerris Dorsey, Ed Oxenbould, Megan Mullally, Jennifer Coolidge and Bella Thorne, and will hopefully not be ruining your day as from October 10, 2014.
