Prometheus (1)

As far as movies about terrible decisions go, 2012’s Prometheus ran like a highlight reel of stupidity and Darwinism in action. This was a film where scientists could barely work out the maths needed to avoid a gigantic donut crashing them, being a terrible mother by abandoning your hideous squid baby abomination and making first contatc with a hostile vagina snake that was clearly warning that guy that it was going to f*** him up.

And yet, despite all that rampant idiocy, I liked Prometheus. Liked it enough to want to give director Ridley Scott a second chance, which is what’s happening with Alien: Covenant. Currently shooting in Australia, Alien: Covenant has only one original cast member returning, as Michael Fassbender really did get ahead in life. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Speaking to Inquirer.net via AVP Galaxy, Fassbender revealed that the most important part of the Alien mythos would be making a comeback. Chestbursters:

There are going to be great sets and aliens coming out of people.

Awesome. Fassbender aslo explained that the new alien location which appears to be paradise that the ship Covenant finds along with the severed head of Fassbender’s David character, might not be so perfect. But the actual sets themselves, are magical:

The sets are fantastic. Again, the most impressive sets I’ve seen since ‘Prometheus,’ which was the original setting. It’s a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements. The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did ‘Blade Runner.’

Prometheus (2)

Fassbender also mentioned that Alien: Covenant will harken back to the original film, as the overall style of that first flick was to mix the future with the past, with the most basic element available. Food:

You have this futuristic world where people are eating noodles, because that seems to be the cheaper food and something that will fill you up. But it’s also something that harks back to the past. The weaving of those two things—past and future—together makes for an interesting world that we can aspire to, but also recognize something in it.

And now I’m terrifeid at the idea of a Noodle-Xenomorph. Fassbender also spoke of working with Scott again, saying that “It’s amazing to watch Ridley work. I try to soak up as much knowledge as I can from him, because having worked on this kind of films a few times and having seen how many moving parts there are, how many people work on the set and how many departments need attention and the language, he’s an absolute master.”

The rest of the cast for Alien: Covenant features Billy Crudup,Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett and Demian Bichir. The film is currently scheduled to burst out on August 4, 2017.
