All-female horror movie anthology “XX” announced

Magnet Releasing, genre division of MPI/Dark Sky Films and home of other horror anthology series V/H/S and The ABC’s of Death, is teaming with production company XYZ Films (Tusk, The Raid) to bring us XX – an all-female directed and lead horror movie anthology series (oh I get it, chromosomes!).

Jennifer Lynch (Surveillance, Chained), Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, Girlfight), Mary Harron (American Psycho) and Jovanka Vuckovic (horror shorts The Guest, Self-Portrait) have been chosen to direct, having full creative freedom while operating within time and budget constraints; while no leads have yet been attached to the project.

MPI President Eamonn Bowles stated: “Magnet has been the home to the most exciting anthology horror films of the last several years, and we’re very pleased to continue the trend with ‘XX.’ We’re especially excited about the caliber of filmmakers involved with this anthology, and the fresh approach that it’s taking to the horror genre.”

With Todd Brown (XYZ Films) adding: “We believe strongly in fostering the best talents around the world at XYZ. We believe different perspectives are what keep storytelling fresh and exciting and hope that XX can help to encourage more female writers and directors to explore the genre world. And we know the ones we have for this first effort are going to absolutely kick ass.”

XX is set to be completed in 2015 and I’m curious to see what this anthology will bring to the horror genre with its clear female voice. How about you?
