Always bet on Jason Statham in this trailer for WILD CARD

Wild Card (1)

Jason Statham hasn’t had a great run at the box office lately. Over the last couple of years, he’s starred in a ton of crap that was worthy of a direct-to-DVD release. Which is a shame, because Statham is a plenty competent actor and one of the finest action stars in Hollywood. He’s like Steven Seagal, minus the daily diet of McDonalds, the ability to do his own stunts and with some decent charisma. Wild Card on the other hand, looks like the first decent film that Statham has been in, in years.

Nick Wild (Jason Statham) is a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal professional skills and a personal gambling problem. When a friend is beaten by a sadistic thug, Nick strikes back, only to find out the thug is the son of a powerful mob boss. Suddenly Nick is plunged into the criminal underworld, chased by enforcers and wanted by the mob. Having raised the stakes, Nick has one last play to change his fortunes…and this time, it’s all or nothing.

Man, that looks like a film with some personality. Like Casino, except with more boots to asses. Wild Card also stars Michael Angarano, Milo Ventimiglia, Dominik García-Lorido, Anne Heche, Sofia Vergara, Max Casella, Jason Alexander, Francois Vincentelli, Davenia McFadden, Chris Browning, Matthew Willig, Greice Santo with Hope Davis and Stanley Tucci.

Simon “The Expendables 2” West directs.

  1. That actually looks really good! And a 2-time Academy Award writer? One hopes that counts for something. I honestly hadn’t heard of this movie before now, but after watching that trailer, it’s most definitely on my radar now. Looking forward to checking it out.
