Its not often that you get a movie that is deliberately trying to sell itself as being like another movie, but that is what we are getting with upcoming horror film, The Mind’s Eye. However when the film it is trying to market itself against is Scanners, a classic that sadly never got a sequel, then perhaps it is a good thing. And based on what we can see from its recently release trailer, The Mind’s Eye is looking to keep that type of edgy, retro vibe going.
As far as horror trailers go, this certainly looks like one of the good ones. It doesn’t look like the scariest film you will see and has a lot more action focus than what you may expect from the genre. It does however appear to be quite smart and eye-catching (in a gory way), which should help differentiate it from the rest of the movies out there that offer your typical jump-scare fare.

The official synopsis of the film is below:
Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. When word of their supernatural talents gets out, they find themselves the prisoners of Michael Slovak, a deranged doctor intent on harvesting their powers. After a daring escape, they are free from his sinister institution, but the corrupt doctor will stop at nothing to track them down so that he may continue to siphon their gifts for his own use. The Mind’s Eye is “a mind-bogglingly gory film that has heart, soul, and suspense, but is above all, unbelievably fun to watch.” (Modern Horrors)
The movie stars Graham Skipper and Lauren Ashley Carter in the lead roles and is written and directed by the talented up and coming Joe Begos (Almost Human), who has already shown a lot of flair and originality in his early work so far. The Mind’s Eye will be released in US theaters on August 5th, 2016.
