We’ve seen two different trailers for director James Mangold’s The Wolverine already, although the second was really just the first with a Japanese voiceover. There are no voiceovers in this new trailer. Hell, there isn’t even dialogue, unless you count the angry growls and somebody making snikt-snikt noises with their mouths.
This is an all out action fest, and even features our first proper look at one rather large, rather silver sword swinging enemy.
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
I’m still loving what I’m seeing here, though it should be noted that unless my eyes deceive me, and there’s a secret race of Japanese giants that I’ve never heard of, Silver Samurai appears to be some form of robot/cyborg. Now it could just be a man in a suit, which I would be ok with, but I’d hate to have a great comic book villain turned into nothing but walking hunk of metal.
