Bad news fetish fans, or good news depending on how you take your lashings. Looks like Charlie Hunnam won’t be sticking around for the adaptation of that cult hit book, as he happens to have an anarchic workload right now.
Thanks to his current commitments on the hit TV series Sons of Anarchy, Hunnam has dropped out of the film, citing that he doesn’t have enough time to “adequately prepare” for the role according to a Universal and Focus Features press release (via Slashfilm). Here’s the gist of the announcement:
The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.
Still, expect someone else to get cast as the domineering rich bastard Christian Grey soon. The announcement of Hunnam as Grey seemed to divide the 50 Shades community right down the middle, as many fans bemoaned the fact that he just wasn’t right for the role, whatever that means. I honestly don’t, because if I need to read up on this kind of material, there’s always the internet. Dakota Johnson is still sticking around for her role as other lead Anastasia Steele in the Sam Taylor-Johnson directed flick, which is currently still scheduled for release in August 2014.
