Up until now, we’ve known little about Duncan Jones’ Warcraft, but the panel at Blizzcon 2013 has teased more information about the script, cast and revealed some concept art of Azeroth.
Set to begin filming in Vancouver in early 2014, Warcraft will tell “the story of Anduin Lothar versus Durotan, Human and Orc heroes from the original real-time strategy games”. According to Jones, the original script was too heavily focussed on the Alliance humans, but there’s more of a balance now. “It’s about both sides. It’s going to be red and blue”.
No details about the cast as yet, aside from the fact that they have one. Which I kind of hope they would by now. Jones did say that “It’s been hard to find an actor who looks like Durotan. Every time I meet an actor I just try to squish his face.”
Special effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer went on to compare the tone of Warcraft to that of Gladiator, and commented on the props, saying that “the swords that are being built are the biggest swords a human being can wield.” He also spoke about the Orcs as actors in make-up, instead of CGI creations.
As for the concept art, it’s beautiful as only concept art can be, but we’ll see how they manage to translate it to the big screen.
Warcraft is scheduled for release on 18 December, 2015
