Most days, I get told that I’m stuck in 1985, due to my habit of wearing AC/DC t-shirts and having a hair style based on the style of TJ Hooker, the flyest cop around. But I could easily have been a 70s guy. While the 60s were a rather pointless decade, the 70s was rad. Big muscle cars, awesome leather jackets and great music.
And dammit, Clive Owen is living my dream! Only with more bullets than I actually imagined, in Blood Ties.
Blood Ties did quite well at the Cannes film festival this year, as French director Guillaume Canet put together quite the cast for his first English-language film. Alongside Owen, there’s also Billy Crudup, Mila Kunis, Marion Cotillard, James Caan and Zoe Saldana.
It’s the usual crime drama fluff though: Two brothers find themselves risking it all while operating from the opposite side of the law, but it’s the slick direction and great cast that might just elevate this film to be more than a series of genre tropes. Blood Ties has yet to get picked up by a USA film distributor though, so it might be a while before we see some brotherly love expressed through car chases.
