When it comes to martial arts stars, I’ve got to admit that Donnie Yen will always be at the top of my list of all-time greats. Sure, Jet Li and Jackie Chan may be far more recognisable than Yen, but ask any purist to rank the number one ass-kicker around and they’ll vote nine times out of Yen for the cult favourite. Hell, he even gave Highlander: Endgame a fight scene that would have saved the film if he had been cast as the lead villain instead.
Which is why I’m amazed that I’ve missed out so far on Yen’s next film, Kung Fu killer. In case you missed it, here’s the original trailer for the flick:
A vicious serial killer is targeting top martial arts masters, and convicted criminal and kung-fu master Hahou (Donnie Yen) is the only one with the skills to stop him. Released from jail and into police custody, they soon have their doubts about Hahou’s true allegiance after a series of mysterious events. Hunted by an unstoppable killer (Wang Baoqiang) and the entire police force, Hahou finds himself on his own, leading to a final battle you have to see to believe in this action-packed, kung fu crime thriller from director Teddy Chen.
And here’s a new clip from the flick via CS, as Yen kicks an absurd amount of ass that is usually reserved for masochistic Lonney Tune cartoons:
Even better news: The movie is out on April 24 in the US of A. Which means that a DVD release likely ins’t far away at this point.
