They say the couple that spies together stays together*. Although I guess that wasn’t true for Mr and Mrs Smith themselves, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (Too soon?). Maybe Pitt will have better luck with Marion Cotillard as a couple of WWII spies who find love behind enemy lines in the Robert Zemeckis directed Allied. Based on this really intense new trailer for the upcoming wartime thriller though, it appears that Pitt may just be going 0 for 2.
Check it out below.
Allied is the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan (Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressures of the war.
Zemeckis has had a long and storied career fill with some of the most beloved movies of all time like Back The Future, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Cast Away and Contact. He’s unfortunately, also had a couple of stinkers in there as well (Hey, Beowulf, how you doing?). But in all his career, he’s never really done a straight thriller though. Judging from the previews for Allied and the level of talent involved – it was penned by Steven Knight (Eastern Promise, Locke) – this looks to be Zemeckis on top form though.
Allied also stars Jared Harris, Matthew Goode and Lizzy Caplan, and is scheduled to open on November 23, 2016.
*Okay, maybe I’m the only that said that
