Hannibal Lector isn’t the only movie icon that happens to be getting his own show, y’know. Scream may not be the most financially successful horror movie franchise ever created, but its still ranks up their with the iconic heavyweights.
Is there life left in the franchise for another film though? Who knows, but MTV certainly thinks that Ghostface deserves a weekly chance to terrorise teenagers once again.
The US Network has commissioned the start of a new series, that will be helmed by former MTV executives Tony Disanto and Liz Gately. There’s no word yet on whether or not Wes Craven will be involved with the series, or even what format it will take on.
After all, stretching a brutal killing or two over several weeks might not make for compelling viewing. Dexter has that market pretty much covered anyway.

It certainly hasn’t done badly for itself – Wes Craven has said it’s hands-down the most successful series of films he’s had a hand in. Considering what a merchandising juggernaut Elm Street once was, that says something. But, ironically, the Scary Movie series made more money…
