Am I the only one noticing the absolutely lack of buzz surrounding Jason Bourne? Sure, The Bourne Legacy spinoff with Jeremy Renner was only moderately successful, but this is the original amnesiac ass-kicker Matt Damon back in one of his most popular roles, being directed by The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum’s Paul Greengrass. The new movie releases in just a few weeks, and yet… barely a blip on the radar.
I got an email last week from the distributors about a brand new “iconic” TV spot for the film and thought “Oh, awesome! The marketing push is finally happening!” only to be greeted by a “trailer” that was 99% a collection of shots from the previous film. It’s almost as if Universal aren’t even trying to get us hyped for this new chapter in their hit franchise.
They’re at least fixing up that perception slightly today after having released some new pics alongside three pretty cool clips from the movie. The clips show respectively show us Bourne involved in some grand theft auto in some kind of public demonstration as he tries to assist Julia Stiles’ Nicky Parsons; then there’s Bourne on the phone with Alicia Vikander’s CIA Agent Heather Lee and Tommy Lee Jones’ CIA Director Robert Dewey, as he learns a little something about his past; and then finally Bourne engaging in the latest in the franchise’s traditional car chases, this time between himself and Vincent Cassel’s unnamed Asset.
Check out the clips and pics below.
Jason Bourne opens in cinemas on July 29.
