LEGEND OF KORRA'S final season begins…next month

Book 3 of the Legend Of Korra, was a rock-solid season, and I don’t care what anyone says. With the air nation reborn, the stakes were higher than ever for Korra as she became entangled in the plot of a renegade group of super-benders, led by the enigmatic Zaheer. It’s a book with consequences, with the finale taking a visible toll on Korra herself. So when does the final season for Korra begin? Quite damn soon actually.

After a weird year that saw little fanfare around the third season and a shift where the show began digital-bending, show creators  Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino announced that Korra would return on October 3 – Of this year. Wow.

DiMartino and Konietzko had mentioned earlier this year that they were well into the production of Book Four, but I didn’t expect it to be this soon. And really, I can’t complain. In many ways, I love Legend Of Korra more than the original series, and it has managed to carve out a legend that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the exploits of Aang and co. And I’m dying to see certain threads in Balance.

Korra took a hell of a beating in the Book Three finale with her battle against Zaheer, while Tenzin’s dream of seeing the Air Nation reborn finally came true. There’s still the matter of Republic City and the fact that it happens to be overrun with spiritual flora at the moment, as well as Korra having to restart the Avatar cycle from the beginning.

But I’m happy for any show that gets a chance to properly conclude.  Don’t expect to see any more Avatar-related series for a while after Korra wraps up, as Konietzko and DiMartino will be taking a break from the series after everything is said and done.
