Man, it’s good to be Disney right now. That studio already has more cash than religion has believers, and they’re going to be swimming in even more money now that they’ve resolved their Iron Man 3 issues with certain chains of cinemas in North America.
And with Pixar releasing a new Monsters movie soon, that cash flow is going to be passing ludicrous speed soon.
Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.
Looks like it’s the revenge of the nerds with this film, with some clear references from college films appearing in this movie. Van Wilder and Animal House are just some of those references,a nd overall, it’s looking like a pretty solid film overall. And hopefully better than Brave or Cars 2.
Class starts June 21 for Monsters University, with attendance from the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina andDave Foley. Dan Scanlon directs.
