It’s been in development for a while now, but finally, one thing is certain. The raggedy man will return in 2015 to face some stiff competition.
Warner Bros has scheduled Mad Max: Fury Road for a May 15 release in 2015. The 3D film will be going head to head with The Avengers: Age of Ultron two weeks after that film releases, and a week before Brad Bird’s mysterious Tomorrowland arrives.
That’s a heck of a schedule, and puzzling for a movie that started shooting in 2012, and is busy now with a few more reshoots to add some extra scenes. Aside from that knowledge, very little is known about the film. What we do know, is that Tom Hardy will be playing the character made famous by Mel Gibson, and will be joined by Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Director George Miller has described the film plot, saying that:
Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.
So what other reason could there be for the delayed release date? Well 2015 would also be the thirthieth year since the last Mad Max film was released, Beyond Thunderdome. But if they went for the exact date that that film was out back then, July 10, then they’d have also found themselves going head to head with another one of their own big films coming out in July 2015. Batman vs Superman.
Hollywood, you’re weird.
