As we saw last week, spin-offs are the name of the game for the Star Wars universe right now. Although the main episodes are undoubtedly the biggest drawcard, Disney and LucasFilm are hoping to get another box-office hit with Rogue One. This will prove that Star Wars can exist beyond its episodic structure. After Rogue One, we’ve also got a young Han Solo movie in the works, as well as a potential Boba Fett spin-off.
The main episodes are already planned up to Episode IX in 2019, but Disney and Lucasfilm will be looking at whether they want to continue expanding the Star Wars universe much sooner. And if they decide that this is the route to go, what time and place in the Star Wars universe would you be interested in?
Personally, I’m interested in a Lando Calrissian origin story. I know he’s already going to be part of the Solo spin-off, but I think his story could be interesting enough to warrant its own movie. Otherwise there are plenty of other opportunities for interquels in the same vein as Rogue One, pick almost any point in the original trilogy and you’ll be able to squeeze something out of it. This could also be a good opportunity to bring back a little of that previously discarded expanded universe, which Lucasfilm previously said they’d be adapting, back in 2014.
So if you had to choose what more you wanted to see in the Star Wars universe, what would you choose? Or would you prefer not to be inundated by additional fluff, and would prefer it if they stuck to the main story?
