Sure Cinderella did well at the box office over the weekend. Really, really well in fact. So well it seems, that its opening weekend was better than the rest of the top 9 movies combined. DAMN. With a $70 million opening weekend, director Kenneth Branagh’s helped grow the live action Disney universe a little bit more. That debut is slightly above last year’s Maleficent ($69.4 million) and well ahead of the previous big screen fairy tail flick, Snow White And The Huntsman ($56.2 million).

Meanwhile, Liam Neeson’s latest action flick Run All Night had a dismal second place debut with $11 million banked at the North American box office. That’s far behind previous Neeson efforts such as Non-Stop ($28.9 million) and even the poorly received A Walk Among The Tombstones ($12.8 million). Here’s a look at how the rest of the top ten did:

CINDERELLA

  • Cinderella – $70 Million
  • Run All Night – $11 Million
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service – $6.2 Million
  • Focus – $5.805 Million
  • Chappie – $5.8 Million
  • The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – $5.7 Million
  • The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water – $4.1 Million
  • McFarland, USA – $3.6 Million
  • American Sniper – $2.93 Million
  • The DUFF – $2.9 Million

Top ten departures this week include Fifty Shades Of Grey, The Lazarus Effect and Unfinished Business. Fifty Shades Of Grey had a great hit and run at the box office, with $546 million earned worldwide over five weeks. Good luck topping that with a sequel however.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
