With the release date (well international release date, at least, we still have quite some time to go) for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, the porn addict rom com Don Jon, you know what that means: Lots and lots of new images and posters. We’ve got the first salvo of the former right here, and there’s a little sumtin’ sumtin’ for everybody.
If you like female eye candy, there’s smouldering Scarlett Johansson; if you like male eye candy, there’s studly Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and if you like just plain candy, plus other various foodstuffs, there’s pizza and pasta.
Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Don Jon has been garnering pretty much universal acclaim while it was making the rounds at the festival circuit, so now it’s time to see whether the general audiences will also fall for it’s Jersey Shore meets romantic comedy charm. And by general audiences, I don’t mean us here in sunny/not so sunny South Africa. Not yet, at least.
Like I mentioned earlier, we’ve still got a ways to go before we can see Scarlett and JGL strutting their stuff on the dance floor, as while the film will be hitting most international cinemas on 27 September, we’re going to have to wait until March 14, 2014. Until then, you’re just going to have to make do with the trailer.

I watch Avengers every now and then, just to forget and imagine that I still have a chance.
Although, I told the Mrs, if Jennifer Aniston is ever in SA, I’m going for it. She can chat with her (since she loves her) and I will tend to the other needs. She must also be part of that exercise…
