Did you sleep well last night? Perhaps have some rather…*cough*… not quite so tasteful dreams about Scarlett Johansson? Yeah, well wipe that goofy grin off your face because that ain’t happening tonight. Or ever again. And it’s all thanks to this eerily creepy bit of nightmare fuel that is the teaser trailer for Under the Skin, the new film from director Jonathan “Sexy Beast” Glazer that sees Miss Johansson as an alien being sent to Earth – specifically Scotland – in human form, with just enough language and communication skills to entice and then feed on hitchhikers.
Not that you’ll get any of that story from this teaser trailer. No, instead you get creepy naked guys, and flashes of scenes that look like a bad shroom trip.
Okay then… Despite that trailer looking it was shot entirely using the editing room leftovers from Twin Peaks, the film has actually been receiving amazing reviews from the Venice Film Festival where it’s just made its debut. Variety’s Justin Chang called it “a bewitching, eerily erotic tour de force of sensory filmmaking” while Xan Brooks at Guardian gave it five stars saying that its “far and away the best picture in the [festival] so far.”
But – and you just knew there was a big ol’ bubble but coming – the film also received numerous boos during its screening, seemingly diving the critics straight down the middle. Is this the dreamy space vampire tale that some are making it out to be, or does this simply put the suck back in succubus? We’ll have to wait a while to find out for ourselves as the film doesn’t have an international release date quite yet.

Pretty freaky trailer and after Sexy Beast I’d watch Mr Glazer direct a cereal commercial.
