Jaume Collet-Sera has practically built a career through collaborations with Liam Neeson on tense and solidly enjoyable popcorn thrillers. But for his latest movie, he’s teaming up with a different apex predator: A great white shark (which is basically the animal kingdom equivalent of Neeson, just minus the charming telephone etiquette).
The Shallows sees Blake Lively being the unfortunate soul to face off against this giant shark, with nothing more than her wits and a tiny rocky outcrop as her protections. Oy vey! And based on this new trailer the film certainly looks like it could offer up some chilling thrills, even if I seriously doubt it will be the “Jaws for a new generation” as the synopsis proudly proclaims.
Check it out below.
In the taut thriller The Shallows, Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills. It’s Jaws for a new generation.
The Shallows was written by Anthony Jaswinski whose script ended up on the Black List of hottest unproduced screenplays. It is scheduled for release on June 24, 2016.
