While the prospect of watching Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman go medieval on some fools is an enticing one, I wouldn’t get too excited yet about upcoming sword-swinging actioner Last Knights. Completed by Japanese filmmaker Kazuaki Kiriya (The Legend of Goemon) back in 2012 already, it appears that this Korean-funded film has just been sitting on the shelf somewhere for the last two years for unknown reasons.
And while that is definitely not a sure sign that this movie will be horrible – the delay could have been financial, and not just people were too embarrassed to release it – this first trailer doesn’t tell me that it will be great either. It seems like pretty standard sword and sandal fare where Owen gets to essentially relive that one time he played King Arthur – only this time he has a much cooler name: Raiden – and Morgan Freeman just Morgan Freemans his way through everything, but now with the help of creative facial hair.
In other words, this could be a decent enough time waster if you’re into the whole medieval thing, but nothing too special to warrant you going on some quest to see it.
A fallen warrior rises against a corrupt and sadistic ruler to avenge his dishonored master.
Last Knights also stars Aksel Hennie (Headhunters, Hercules) and is scheduled for release in theatres and VOD on April 3, 2015.
