Fans of The Shannara Chronicles have even more to get excited about it seems following the release of MTV’s latest trailer for their adaption of the popular books. We’ve seen few trailer releases thus far, all of them impressive, but MTV unveiled this new one at the New York Comic Con over the weekend and it’s just as good.

If you have not read the books then here is a little background on the story.

An Elvish tree, known as the Ellcrys, is dying. The bad news is that the tree has been the only piece of magic that protects the Four Lands from the Demon World. Amberle Elessedil is the only one who can save the tree. But she has to unlock magic that the Elves haven’t used in thousands of years. With the help of Wil Ohmsford, she travels to find the lost magic.

Check out the trailer below.

The trailer certainly looks good. There are some fantastic scenery, plenty of weird creatures and what looks to be promising fight scenes.

Not having read any of them, I am told that the books transcend from modern to ancient times, dealing with otherworldly technology and elements that gives the allows it to cross over between the realms of both fantasy and sci-fi. Consider me sold!

It’s produced by Jon Favreau – who has been responsible for some highly entertaining viewing the last few decades – and throw into that mix a good cast and plenty of great source material and it would seem there is a recipe for success in The Shannara Chronicles.

Starring in The Shannara Chronicles is John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings) and Manu Bennett (Spartacus) along with Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries), Poppy Drayton (When Calls The Heart) and Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), with Al Gough and Miles Millar the creators of Smallville taking on the writing duties.

The show is set for release on the 5th of January 2016.
