Up until George Miller’s recent “mad” resurgence, I would have said that Guillermo Del Toro is probably the most visually imaginative director working in the Hollywood studio system. The Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim helmer builds such sumptuously fantastical worlds in his movies, that even if the movies themselves don’t always work holistically, at least they look utterly amazing.

With Crimson Peak though, Del Toro seems to have crafted a movie that looks amazing and, well, literally looks amazing, if you know what I mean. As you can see in these two – yes, two! – new trailers for the gothic horror, atmosphere positively drips from every artfully designed scene. Throw in one hell of a cast led by none other than Loki himself and this looks like one haunted house that I actually want to visit right damn now.

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider.  Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.

Crimson Peak stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. It’s set for release on October 16, 2015.

  1. As someone who has pretty much no faith in the horror genre any more, this actually looks pretty interesting to me. And you cant argue with that cast and Mr. Del Toro.
