Tom Hiddleston was once quite a low-key actor until his major breakout role as the rather naughty, adopted Asgardian Loki… See what I did there?! It’s always difficult to move away from a character that so many people love and into other roles where similarities are not drawn. I think in this case Hiddleston has hit the nail on the head.
I Saw The Light looks like a very heavy and somber affair, but then again it’s about country musician Hank Williams so you aren’t going to get that warm fuzzy feeling unless you are swigging back on a bottle of Scotch because your wife has left with your dog. The film was supposed to come out over Thanksgiving weekend but numerous reasons, including Hiddleston’s hectic schedule, mean that it’s been pushed back to Spring next year. I think the upcoming awards probably played quite a large role too. There really shouldn’t be any reason for me to spell out what the story is but if you are not familiar here’s a quick breakdown:
Singer and songwriter Hank Williams (Tom Hiddleston) rises to fame in the 1940s, but alcohol abuse and infidelity take a toll on his career and marriage to fellow musician Audrey Mae Williams (Elizabeth Olsen).
Let’s have a look at the trailer and try NOT to wonder where his horned-helmet is…
Intense stuff! Hiddelston wears a cowboy hat like a boss too. Of course you will have noticed Elizabeth Olsen Hank’s long-suffering wife and she looks amazing in the role.
Expect I Saw The Light to sing its way to cinemas next year spring.
