Normally, this is the section of an article where I come up with some witty hook to get you to watch the trailer below for whatever film we happen to be punting today. But at the moment I’m actually busy studying for an exam I’m writing next week, and can’t spare the brain power to come up with the catchy pun or embarrassing anecdote about Darryn as I usually would. Luckily, when a movie has the pedigree of talent behind it that Bridge of Spies does, all I really need to is state the facts about it:
Directed and produced by Steven Spielberg (Just about every great movie you can think of), written by Ethan and Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Fargo), based on an incredible true story about an infamous Cold War incident, and stars Tom Hanks (Castaway, Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump), Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, The West Wing, The Aviator), Amy Ryan (The Wire, Gone Baby Gone) and Mark Rylance (multiple award-winning stage actor).
What? Still not convinced? Well, then how about the fact that the trailer just looks effing incredible? Check it out below.
A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.
Bridge of Spies is scheduled for release October 16, 2015.
