This RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION trailer is all a dream!

I enjoyed the first Resident Evil movie. It was a decent adaptation of the videogame with enough nods to its source to please fans, and good amounts of horror and action to appease the newcomers.

Since then though, it would be safe to say I haven’t been much of a fan; my “appreciation” of the subsequent sequels inversely proportional to director Paul W.S. Anderson’s propensity for slow-motion show-off shots of his wife, Milla Jovovch. Look, I know she’s hot but I’m pretty sure that if all the slow-mo shots in the last movie were played at normal speed, it would barely have a 70 min running time.

This trailer tells me that nothing has changed, but I understand that some of you really enjoy this, so click away!

This fifth entry in the series certainly does appear to be bigger in scale than its predecessors, and I’m liking a few shots of the monsters that I’m seeing. However, overall this still looks like nothing more than a gimmicky 3D showreel of some Ukranian ex-model packing leather tights and a gun. I’m pretty sure I can already get that on the internet for free.*

So, fans of the series (and judging by the insane amount of money its made, there’s an inexplicably gargantuan amount of you), what do you think?

Synopsis:

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, ALICE (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

*Or so I’ve heard from a friend.

That first image looks awful – like someone hired a student to make a Photoshop mock-up…
