In the very elite sub-genre of movies about anthropomorphic animals with men’s hands up their bottoms who go on hilarious musical adventures with Jason Segel and Amy Adams, there’s one movie that reigns supreme. Actually there’s only one movie, so it’s a good thing that it was brilliant.
That movie is The Muppets, a film that won the Oscar for Best Original Song and also filmgoers hearts in 2011. Its globetrotting sequel, Muppets Most Wanted, may be missing some Segel and Adams, but it still looks just brilliantly humourous as ever, as can be seen in this first teaser trailer and 5 new images for the film. MANIACAL LAUGH! MANIACAL LAUGH!
Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of “Derek” and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series “The Office” and “Extras.” The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” “Mean Girls,” “Date Night”) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s “Modern Family”) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.
While we don’t really see much of Ricky Gervais here, it looks like his human co-stars, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell, will be just as funny as they always are (spoiler: a lot). And if it were my call to make, I think Phil Dunphy should start rocking a pencil stache over in Modern Family from now on. Just look how slick it looks:
Muppets Most Wanted will showing you their Jagger moves on March 21, 2014.
