Mark Wahlberg may be more well known for saying “Hi to your mother” but he’s about to get all paternal. Released to coincide with yesterday’s Father’s Day (A belated Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, by the way), the first trailer for upcoming comedy Daddy’s Home is now out.
From director Sean Anders (Sex Drive, Hot Tub Time Machine, The Millers), the movie sees Wahlberg teaming up once again with his The Other Guys co-star Will Ferrell, but this time, instead of good partners, the two find themselves on opposite ends of a fatherly feud. Cue the paternal one-upmanship involving ponies, treehouses and Mark Wahlberg not wearing a shirt as the two try to prove who is the better dad.
Based on the trailer, the pair don’t seem to be allowed to get as absurd as they did on The Other Guys and thus this seems tamer in comparison (the film is not yet rated, so it could be that there are much raunchier gags that they just can’t show here), but it still looks like it may be worth a few chuckles.
“DADDY’S HOME” follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids.
Daddy’s Home also stars Linda Cardellini, Thomas Haden Church and Paul Scheer. It is scheduled for release on 25 December 2015.
