Transformers 4 will have a new cast of robots – So that Hasbro can sell more toys

2 min read

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the Transformers franchise has Baysploded a ton of cash into the pockets of everyone involved in that franchise. The last film, Dark of the Moon, grossed over a billion dollars in profit, all on it’s own, something that made Paramount Studios very happy indeed.

Unfortunately, Hasbro, the owners of the Transformers brand, saw very little profit in their toy section, something that they were banking on with the  third movie. So to sell more of those overpriced plastic replicas, they’re shoving in a whole new bunch of characters into the upcoming fourth film.

Bleeding Cool and Transformers fansite TFW2005 picked up the info from Hasbro president and CEO Brian Goldner at the UBS Best of America’s Conference, that the push for new characters was part of the future strategy of Hasbro to sell some more robots in disguise.

The Hasbro reasoning behind introducing new characters, is that because the previous film actually introduced very little new characters, sticking to the tried and trusted Decepticons and Autobots such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream and Megatron. Introducing some fresh metal faces however, should solve that problem, for Hasbro.

That doesn’t mean that Optimus Prime and his trusty soldiers won’t appear in the upcoming fourth film, but as for whether or not it’ll introduce new characters based on established Cybertronians from the vast source material, is unclear.

What Transformers 4 won’t have however, is a coked up Shia LaBeouf running away from Baysplosions, as a new cast is taking over for the franchise, while the Transformers themselves are getting a redesign.

Here’s one way that Hasbro could sell some Transformers toys locally: Make the damn things cheaper. I love action figures, and have a small collection of my own, but I’m not slapping down R300-R400 for a Megatron replica. That’s just ludicrous. But if you’re going to put some new characters in the movie, there are plnty to choose from that have gone unused in the Transformers mythos, from Cliff-Jumper to Trypticon.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!

Hey hey! Don’t hate on action figure collectors. If I had that I would be able to die happy…

The price of the action figures where an issue even way back in the 80’s, damnit! Look, as long as they keep Peter Cullen doing the voice of Prime they can shove whoseover damn well they want to into this.

But yeah, Shia going is not a bad thing either. Just hope they do not replace him with I don’t know, Justin Bieber or somebody as annoying.

Is Michael Bay going to direct this one as well?

They better not get that crap actress from the last movie back. She killed, i couldnt stand her.
