If you’ve never watched a Lifetime movie, then this following trailer may not have as much impact for you. Also, you’re very lucky. The US TV network Lifetime has made an infamous name for itself with made-for-TV movies that are usually poorly directed, cliche-infested hokum at best, and factually inaccurate, lawsuit attracting biopics starring no-name actors at worst.

So the news that Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, two reasonably big Hollywood stars, had been secretly working on a serious Lifetime movie titled A Deadly Adoption came as a bit of a shock when it was leaked in April. Unfortunately, the early leak apparently prompted Ferrell and Wiig to go all Tarantino and announce that they’re instead scrapping the project.

Except they didn’t. In fact, the movie had already been shot in its entirety and in hindsight it looks like the whole thing could have been nothing but an elaborate gag, as the first full trailer for the movie has been released and show that this “serious” movie is not actually quite that “serious”. Well, at least not to us, as funny folk Ferrell and Wigg are playing this completely straight as they send up all the cheesy tropes that usually found in Lifetime’s movies, right down to the claim that this was inspired by a true story.

Kudos to Lifetime though for having a sense of humour about about the product that they’ve gained a reputation for, and allowing Ferrell and Wiig to rip them apart like this. I’m sure the fact that hundreds of thousands of people will probably tune in to watch this, certainly didn’t hurt.

Check out the trailer below.

Inspired by a true story, “A Deadly Adoption” is a high-stakes dramatic thriller about a successful couple (Ferrell and Wiig) who house and care for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes from “90210”) during the final months of her pregnancy with the hopes of adopting her unborn child.

A Deadly Adoption will be airing in the US on Saturday, 20 June 2015. Hopefully it will somehow find its way to our screens too in the near future.
