Roadblock (2)

What, you thought this year would end without somebody taking a steel chair to the head? HA! Not in my world! Or WWE Universe! There’s one more event left to go on the WWE Calendar, and it’s name is Roadblock. Not to be confused with the GI Joe character, who was played by former superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Hoo boy, these things really do come full circle. Anyway, here’s the full match line-up for this Sunday:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns
  • Raw Women’s Champion Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair (30-Minute WWE Iron Man Match)
  • Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho
  • WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins vs. The Brian Kendrick
  • Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman
  • Big Cass vs. Rusev (Kickoff Match)
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus

At this point, I’d usually wax lyrical about the best matches from previous incarnations of this particular PPV. But the thing is, Roadblock is very much still a new event. It debuted earlier this year as a WWE Network exclusive, and it has now been rebranded into a RAW month-end extravaganza. So what about that match line-up then for Roadblock?

It’s very much a solid card, with the main event looking like a great physical showdown. Say what you like about WWE’s efforts to push Roman Reigns as the next face of the company, but having those plans scuppered somewhat by some positive drug results may have done the man a favour. The WWE crowd wasn’t exactly behind the Reigns push, which ignored the fact the fact that he’s a great worker in the ring when he’s not being positioned as a dull flavour of Superman.

As US Champ, Reigns has had a hand in some fantastic matches this year. With the ever-reliable Kevin Owens being the heel to his face, I think we’re in for a hell of a main event then. WWE Roadblock, this Sunday then. Be there or be like a former John Cena enforcer who mysteriously vanished many years ago.
