WWE Smackdown LIVE took place from Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Here’s all the action that went down last night.

The IIconics interrupted a standoff between Asuka and Becky Lynch

The Man wasn’t just ready to face Asuka for the Smackdown LIVE Women’s championship at the Royal Rumble, she was hungry for a fight. Taking the stage, Becky Lynch’s verbal showdown with Asuka was soon interrupted by the arrival of the Iiconics, resulting in an irate Lynch telling the duo to put up or shut up and face her in the ring right then and there.

Becky Lynch def. Peyton Royce

Not even dressed to compete, Lynch was still more than a match for Peyton Royce and quickly reminded her of just how she had earned a world title in the first place. One Dis-Arm-Her later, and Lynch locked in a quick victory. A victory that Asuka decided to better, as the Empress of Tomorrow was itching for a match against the other half of the Iiconics.

Asuka def. Billie Kay

Sending a message of her own to Becky Lynch, Asuka dismantled Billie Kay and applied the dreaded Asuka Lock in a short but sweet match.

AJ Styles and “The New” Daniel Bryan threw down in the concourse

Daniel Bryan had a bone to pick with people who enjoyed a little of the ol’ junk food on the side. This week, AJ Styles decided to celebrate those culinary guilty pleasures, hitting the concourse and mingling with the fans. Which of course resulted in Bryan ambushing the former world champion. Bryan may have bitten off more than he could chew however, as Styles got the upper hand and sent the bearded wonder right through a table.

Samoa Joe heinously assaulted Mustafa Ali prior to their scheduled match

Instead of a hard-fought singles match, Samoa Joe decided to give Smackdown LIVE’s newest star a taste of ambush as he brutalised the plucky high-flyer across the ring.

Andrade def. Rey Mysterio

In a match for the ages, Andrade’s brute force managed to overpower Rey Mysterio’s top rope acrobatics, with a little help from Zelina Vega of course. With the ref distracted, Andrade managed to pounce on Mysterio and land the Hammerlock DDT to get the big win.

The Bar interrupted The Miz’s “Bestie Birthday Bash” for Shane McMahon

The Miz in his best brown-nosing mode, plenty of cake and assumptions that he would be a tag team champion soon alongside Shane McMahon. What did you think was going to happen?

The Miz def. Sheamus

The A-Lister may be doing his very best to work his way into Shane McMahon’s good books, but don’t discount his in-ring cunning. Weathering a mountain of abuse from Sheamus, The Miz managed to make good use of a brouhaha outside the ring involving Cesaro and Shane, catching Sheamus in a roll-up pin and a Skull-Crushing Finale after the bell had rung.

Not done yet with Sheamus, Shane and the Miz decided to give him a taste of the duo’s teamwork with a coast to coast cake attack.

  1. Um…I haven’t watched Smackdown in a while, but is The Miz pushing a babyface persona. I hope so. I love The Miz in any persona, but I would love to see him turn babyface for a few months. I know at his heart, he will always been a wheeler and dealer, manipulating the situation to his benefit, but imagine how cool a babyface Miz would be just for a change of pace with his character. So many other superstars have turned heel, but far more rarely do you find them going from heel to babyface!
