WWE Smackdown LIVE took place from the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Here’s all the action that went down ahead of this weekend’s Fastlane event.
“The New” Daniel Bryan addressed his WWE Title Match against Kevin Owens at WWE Fastlane
Hey may have been quiet last week, but after Daniel Bryan claimed that the only reason why the WWE Universe admired Kevin Owens was because of his rounder physique, the prizefighter decided that the time for words was over. Owens jumped into the fray, but it wasn’t long before Bryan and Daniels overpowered him, ending with Owens getting a taste of Rowan’s claw attack.
The Miz def. Jey Uso
One skull-crushing finale later, and The Miz had some major fuel in his tank for Fastlane, when he teams up with Shane McMahon again to reclaim their tag team gold.
Samoa Joe def. R-Truth, Rey Mysterio and Andrade to become new United States Champion
R-Truth may have bitten off more than he could chew with his latest open challenge for the United States championship, as he got not one but three challengers last night. In a furious Fatal Fourway, it was Samoa Joe who got the decisive pin on Andrade, earning the gold and his first taste of championship success on Smackdown LIVE.
Ricochet and Aleister Black def. The Bar
They may have been defeated the previous night on RAW, but Ricochet and Aleister Black bounced back against the Bar. Without having to worry about Bobby Roode and Chad Gable ambushing them, Ricochet was able to land a 630 splash the clinch the match. And then Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura attacked, but the ambush was over before it began when the Hardy Boyz entered the scene to even the odds.
Mandy Rose def. Naomi
Is Mandy Rose ready for Asuka? Maybe! After last night’s bout against Naomi, it’s clear that Rose has an ace up her sleeve in the form of Sonya Deville, who kept Naomi distracted long enough for her to be put down. Asuka decided to send a message of her own, arriving after the bell had rung as she decked both Rose and Deville, reminding the duo that the Empress was more than ready for them.
Kevin Owens def. Rowan via Disqualification
What began as a singles bout quickly became chaos, as Kevin Owens decided to rip into Daniel Bryan at ringside. The two-on-one advantage quickly repeated itself, but when Mustafa Ali entered the scene, Owens managed to lock a stunner onto the WWE Champion and earn some sweet retribution.
Sparks flew between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair ahead of WWE Fastlane
She may have been on the receiving end of a vicious beatdown from Ronda Rousey the night before on RAW, but Becky Lynch was still standing and ready to fight. An invitation that Charlotte Flair took the Lass-kicker up on her offer and delivered a brutal beating ahead of their showdown at Fastlane.
