Zack Snyder talks costumes and casting in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN

Not everyone is happy with the work being done on the Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs Superman. Some folks are hating on the casting decisions, some don’t want to see director Zack Snyder back to tear up Metropolis again and right now there’s most likely a reddit thread crticising the Batman costume which has yet to be revealed.

Well put yourselves at ease, because Snyder is going to tell you what’s going on with the sequel.

Clothes make the vigilante, and according to Snyder when he spoke to the LA Times, he proper geeked out when he saw the suits for Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel and Ben Affleck’s Batman, standing next to one another:

We’re getting ready to start shooting in a month or so. It’s going great. I’m very excited… We were just testing the suits, right? The new Batsuit and the Superman suit. It wasn’t even with the actors, right? It was just to see ‘em. I was standing there, they were standing next to each other and I was like, ‘Guys, someone take a picture! This has never happened before!’

As for story, Snyder is taking a page from Marvel and continuing what recent DC films have been doing. Namely taking the best bits of various storylines, and doing what they want with them in order to create something that isn’t beholden to the source material:

In ‘Man of Steel,’ we had to create an origin story, a mythology. There’s a lot of energy into that, which we love doing. Don’t get me wrong. But when you think about how fun it is too — now that you’ve got these characters — to now let ‘em loose. That’s fun! …[it] literally takes the ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman’ universes and explodes them.

Batman vs Superman has a much larger cast, with several big names attached to them. Naturally, each and every cast announcement so far has been met with the kind of derision that only the internet could muster. But Snyder is sticking to his guns on his decisions for Wonder Woman, Batman and Lex Luthor. And I agree with him, this is a solid cast so far:

We know the material. Unfortunately, the fans don’t know the material. So, we’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. And we’re hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we’re doing that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint.

You will believe that a man can punch a flying mammal-themed vigilante when Batman vs Superman arrives in 2016.

I liked that, haven’t seen proper devastation like that in the superhero movie yet. So I’m interested to see how they move on from that – doesn’t HAVE to go bigger.

It would be interesting to see if they use the continuity about Metropolis being wrecked.. Maybe thats why batman goes up against Supes..
