Analyst Predicts Next Tony Hawk to Include Skateboard Peripheral

tony Analyst Doug Creutz of Cowan and Company believes that mainly in an effort to boost the sale of the next Tony Hawk title from Activision, they may include a skateboard like peripheral akin to something like the Wii balance board.

According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, in his latest letter to investors, Creutz stated:

“We believe that the extra year of development time and the opportunity for consumers to shake off franchise fatigue could contribute to better unit sales than the franchise has enjoyed in recent years.”

“We also view it as highly likely that the game will include some sort of skateboard peripheral with all SKUs when it ships, given the massive success (and higher price points and profitability) of Activision Blizzard’s Guitar Hero franchise.”

It’s worth remembering that a similar story was leaked this summer, so this certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the possibility of Tony Hawk sporting an added peripheral. Furthermore, the move is pretty much a no-brainer considering how popular Wii Fit has been with its Wii Balance Board accessory. With Nintendo and other developers working on ways to integrate the board into future IPs, the days of owning a lone controller have quickly become a thing of the past. I’m excited, a peripheral could add new life to a franchise that to be honest died a long time ago, but if this is true it also presents it’s own problems for us here in South Africa, like cost and availability. But i guess we will have to wait for Activision to confirm something first.

I hope this means the Tony Hawk series will be returning to it’s roots.

what roots? The Tony Hawk series has always been about killer combos that are impossible to do in real life. Even though the added lots of funky features, open worlds, etc. They did stick to their roots, that was the problem. There was no point in getting one because it was more or less the same game every year. Franchise Fatigue indeed.
