Anthem community manager asks fans to please “be respectful and constructive with your feedback”

It’s a bit like the needle being stuck on Side A track 1 on Captain Obvious Sings the Blues, but Anthem did not have a very good launch. Worse still, is the number of problems that have popped up since launch – like the game’s curious level scaling bugs, infinite shield glitches and awful loot grinding systems.

Speaking on Reddit, Anthem’s global community manager Jesse Anderson addressed these issues, along with many more. One of the things he took time to address was the decrease in Bioware’s community interaction on places like Reddit, and – surprise – it’s come down to how vitriolic many people are when dealing with developers. On that front, Anderson has very kindly asked pople to just be a little more respectful – which is often a bit like pissing against the wind.

“Things used to be a lot friendlier here for dev team members who normally don’t talk on social channels or forums. They could answer questions, give information and know that they aren’t going to have people getting upset at them. Why would a dev team member take time away from working on the next update to post when they know it’s likely to be met with hostile replies, or they get flamed because can’t answer other questions that players are asking?”

“I don’t mind posting here when things aren’t so nice,” Anderson continued, “but that’s because it’s my job. For the devs it isn’t their job, and I’d like to ask that people remember that when replying to them. When some people say “be nice or the devs will stop posting” it’s 100% true. Be respectful and constructive with your feedback and more team members will likely reply.”

That’s a message I can get behind. I think far too often people forget that there are human beings behind the games they enjoy (or in this case, don’t). I get that too – as a consumer who’s spent a heck of a lot of money on a game that’s fundamentally broken, it’s hard not to be angry or felt hard done by. Still, it wouldn’t hurt at all to retain some civility when moaning about it.

It’s worth reading the post – because Anderson addresses the game’s loot problems, saying that BioWare isn’t happy with how it is right now either. The problems will get fixed – it just takes a little time.

“All I’ll say on this is that Anthem is here to stay. Do we have a lot of work to do to fix parts of the game? Yes, and the team is committed to making improvements and releasing new content.”

Will that eventually make Anthem a game that’s worth your money? Maybe – but being a dick about it on the internet probably won’t.

Yeah. I would suggest staying away from vile places if you want constructive feedback. Like, away from the internet is good.

It’s kinda like asking criminals to stop stealing & murdering. The fact is the internet has given a voice to the people we’d usually not listen to or even give a voice. And while their are some good this, it brings with it a lot of bad. Maybe even more bad than good. And there isn’t really anything we can do about it.
So until someone can come up with a proper solution, or we manage to make everyone in he world hold hands and sing Kumbaya, you’ll just need to accept the fact that there are going to be assholes. And it’s up to you to decide how you’re going to deal with it.
Personally I’d just ignore them, unless you want to troll the assholes a bit, which I do enjoy doing.

Agree. My only worry is, and this is partially because of who EA is, that EA and Bioware is using “toxic people on the internet” to stay radio silent. Because even though this guy says he is fine with replying in toxic environments he has not posted anything constructive for days. Leaving your fans out of the loop just because is not acceptable.

And it ain’t just EA. Bethesda did the same thing with Fallout 76 and Activision did it with Destiny. If you don’t want to engage with your customers just be honest at least and tell us to piss off.

Completely agree. Been on the Apex Legends subreddit? I’ve been trying to figure it out. That place is so toxic and full of abuse, it’s not even worth trying to say anything or have a conversation with anyone. Maybe people in general have just gotten saltier by the dozen and the Apex sub is a fresh specimen.

People should, instead of bitching and moaning, start voting with their wallet. It’s not like we haven’t seen online multiplayers before with similar issues, more often of late. Start waiting for reviews and keeping an eye on publishers and their antics so you know which titles to choose from.

Absolutely. But people should also bitch and moan – in a nice, constructive way.

No. Thats not how this works. Corporate greed and ineptitude needs to come to an end. Why is the onus on the clients/users to have to pay full price for a service or product thats been made badly, horribly supported and then get snarky fuck around comments like this dude? No. The responsibility lies with the creators devs and publishers, it is not our faults they cant make good products, behave ethically and practice good strategies other than wanting every last cent out of our wallets? No. Its not our responsibility to vote with our wallets its our responsibility to bitch and moan to get what we paid for, what we have a passion for, what we care for.

The only thing that talks to the creators and devs is money, so yea, TALK WITH YOUR WALLET.

You should definitely take a look at devolver and cd projekt red, and if thier behaviour does result in them losing a few bucks but making a legit cult following and you still feel that way then you might need to do a little more industry research because, as surprising as it is, people make games because they love them, not because theres a few bar to be made.

Friend, you’re citing the exception to the rule. Make no mistake, love don’t pay the bills of these companies. They MUST do what they do with the intent to make profit, and profit is the only language that speaks to businesses.

So, speak with your wallet 🙂 support cd projekt red, I did too, even though I never finished any of their games. I bought their games knowing of their exceptional behaviour.

Laughable the lenghts people will go through…..if even half of all the people bitching and moaning about this game actually bought it, it would’ve been one of the best sellers so far this year! But hey, if constantly bitching about a game you haven’t bought/played or care about is your feel good poison, so be it!?
