Ubisoft is not stranger to putting their games on just about every single platform capable of playing them, and though they’ve made no announcement of their impending reinvention of the Assassin’s Creed series hitting Sony’s sexy new handheld in one form or another it wouldn’t take much stretching of the imagination to believe it’ll be coming.
According to some retailer listings (not BT Games this time!) that may well be the case.
Zavvi.com, the UK retailer born from the ashes of Virgin Megastores had – note emphasis on the had – listed Assassin’s Creed III on its site for a October 31 release – day and date with the PS3 and 360 brethren. Was it some sort of computer error, or, as we’ve seen with BT Games – an insider-fuelled portent of things to come?
Ubisoft has previously confirmed an Assassin’s Creed game for the Vita – but no mention of what form it would take. I hope that the listing is true – but what I don’t want is for Assassin’s Creed 3 on the Vita to be a straight, inferior port of the console versions. With the Vita’s beefy hardware Assassin’s Creed would be a natural fit – I just hope it’s a different, transmedia adventure.
Assassin’s Creed’s appeared on a Sony handheld before – in Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, a PSP exclusive game that expanded upon Altair’s story – but unfortunately wasn’t very good, mostly because of technical limitations on the PSP.
