Death

One of the saddest things to come out of THQ’s recent dissolution and auction is that nobody picked up Vigil Game, the developers of Darksiders. As a result, that studio now no longer exists – but thanks to Crytek, its memory might yet live on.

German-based Crytek’s gone and opened up yet another studio, this time in Austin Texas; its first on the US and its 9th overall. It’ll also be filled with a number for former Vigil employees.

“We are extremely excited about the work that we will be undertaking from our strategic new location in Austin, with David Adams and his team of 35 experienced developers,” Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said in a press statement.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the newest Crytek studio, which will boast some of the brightest development talent in the industry,” newly-appointed Crytek USA boss David Adams, co-founder of Vigil Games, added.

While Crytek’s not quite saved Vigil, they have gathered together 36 of the studio’s best and most experienced developers and given them a new home in Crytek USA.

So what  can you expect from Crytek USA? Certainly not Darksiders – as the IP, along with Red Faction,  still rests with the ashes of THQ at the moment.

“Online games and kick-ass triple-A productions. It is going to be quite a significant investment for Crytek over the next five years.”

Oh great…more free-to-play shooters. That’s exactly what the world needs.
