2015, is the year of the Dragon. Dragon Ball that is. And I ain’t talking about clamping off seminal tubes in the most dangerous veterinary in the world. No sir, I’m talking about the legendary anime series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. Those various shows wrapped up years ago however, leaving a gap that could only be filled with sporadic movie releases and relentless video game tie-ins. But Dragon Ball is coming back to the small screen baby, so set your channel to 9000 and get pumped!
The new series is called Dragon Ball Super, and it’ll feature the regular cast as they tackle a new threat from beyond that eclipses the power of Freeza and Majin Buu. It’s the first new Dragon Ball series to be produced since Dragon Ball GT from 1996, and it’ll debut on Fuji TV this July according to ANN. The Goku family voice actor Masako Nozawa described the anime title as “we’ve always used the word ‘ch?’ (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama will still be credited for his work, as well as “original story & character concepts,” while Toei Animation’s Kimitoshi Chioka serves as the series director. There’s no word yet on what kind of threats the new series will show off, but I’m certain that the dangers hinted by Bills in Battle Of The Gods will make an appearance of some sort. KAAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEE HOORAY!
In the meantime, the next Dragon Ball Z film, Resurrection of F, gets an English dub release in the Northern summer. Thanks for the link Umar.
