Remember when I reported on the rumor that you might be able to get achievements for watching TV and movies on the Xbox One? Well, now it seems that it’s a real thing.
Over on Xbox Wire, they showed off the TV and entertainment apps coming to Xbox One. After raving about how the Xbox One will be the all-in-one entertainment hub, the post goes on to say:
For example, Xbox One is empowering partners to bring media achievements and exclusive Snap experiences, as well as many other things to entertainment apps, offering everybody the opportunity to achieve badges or rewards for the media they consume in addition to gaming.
It’s unknown at this point if it will affect Gamerscore. Maybe there will be a new score – Viewerscore? Loungescore? I suppose this is a way to show off to your friends that you have indeed watched all of Twilight with your girlfriend, or maybe there will be a special achievement if the Kinect picks up that you fell asleep while watching it. I’m curious about the types of achievements you could unlock, or if we should call it an achievement when you binge on The Walking Dead and finish the entire season in one weekend. Not that I’ve ever done anything like that.
It’s clear that the Xbox One is designed to be an entertainment device, not just a gaming console. I just wonder if people are looking for this kind of all-in-one hub, or if they still like having multiple consoles and interactive systems. Only a few more weeks until we know how people vote with their wallets.
