How to easily and instantly evolve Eevee in Pokémon Go

Eeveelutions

It feels so weird to se people finally embracing the goodness that is Pokémon…In a free to play package that is massively addictive and built specifically for smartphones. I’m going to be all alone at the end of the year when I rant and rave further about Pokémon Sun and Moon, aren’t I? ANYWAY! The point is, is that Pokémon Go has evolved into the ultimate leg day program, an app where you can catch a hundred Zubats before you even set your eyes on at least one Scyther or Jinx.

Fortunately, most Pokémon have evolutions, which can help fill your Pokédex up even quicker. Eevee is a prime example of this, a cuddly Pokémon with malleable DNA that allows it to evolve into numerous parallel forms depending on its mood or proximity to a specific location or elemental stone. It’s not that easy to actually get the little guy to transform into Jolteon, Vaporeon or Flareon in Pokémon Go however.

Actually, that’s a lie. It’s about as easy as piss, thanks to this hack discovered by smithnigel on reddit. All you have to do is give your Eevee a specific nickname, and you’ll get an instant evolution:

  • Sparky –  Jolteon
  • Rainer – Vaporeon
  • Pyro – Flareon

EP040

If those names sound familiar, it’s because they were the handles of the evolved Eevees seen in the Pokémon animated series episode “The Battling Eevee Brothers”. If you remember that episode from your youth, then neeeeeeeeeeeeeeerd. Anyway, that’s a quick and easy way to get your hands on some rare Pokemon without needing to get shot at by a disgruntled Clint Eastwood for wandering around his yard.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go join the mob over by Eskom to see if I can catch an Elecatbuzz before it uses a load-shedding attack.

48 of 126 pokemon seen and caught, and not one Eevee.

I don’t know where you live, but I was able to catch 4 of them last night (2 ran away). It seems like Eevee is out afternoon-evening’ish and Blouberg/Beach Road is definitely a good spot for them. Century City is also an “ok” spot to find one or 2 of them.

Live in Jo’burg… know of a few that’ve caught, seeing as a guy holds 3 different gyms with the 3 evolutions of Eevee. But I haven’t seen one. Like Staryu, not one.

I’ve caught 2 Charmanders, got Bulbasaur as starter, haven’t seen one since, and have never found a Squirtle.

Its cute that you expect to find water pokemon in JHB 😛

To make it better for you, fire and rock is very rare here in CPT

Oh I’ve seen Staryu, Squirtle, Kingler, Goldeen and Horsea on the “near” pokemon, just didn’t track em down (or couldn’t). I have a seadra, tentacool and a krabby, that’s my water pokemon.

I get all of those while I’m sitting at my PC at home 🙂 It is much easier to catch water pokemon here. I’ve seen some fire on the “nearby” thing but it doesn’t work well

I can’t catch anything at home, nothing but Zubats spawn, and they’re normally a block (or more away).

My office is another story, I’ve caught about 36 of the different types here, rest are on the way home, or evolutions.

Ok it does not instantly evolve the Eevee, it just guarantees a specific evolution for your Eevee if you have enough candy to evolve.

They should have rather put “False Prophet” for Flareon.

No. Changing the names does not result in an *instant* evolution. I’m a redditor, level 20 in game, Eeveelutionist extraordinaire. I’ve lost count of how many Eevees I’ve evolved, but I keep 2 Flareon, 2 Jolteon, and 2 Vaporeon for gym battles/defense.
    The Hack-
I named my last Eevee “Rainer” to get a Vaporeon, but didn’t have enough candy to initiate the evolution. No instant evolution occurred. Once I had 25 candy, I evolved Rainer and got a Vaporeon as promised. Players should wait a while after changing the name to Pyro/Sparky/Rainer anyway, to make sure the new name has updated on the server. Close the game and reopen it. The only time this hack has failed is when players triggered evolution immediately after changing the name.
