Eurogamer’s Top 50 games of the year 2008

And the Winner is Eurogamer have been counting down their top 50 games of the year and have finally come to the end.

Instead of working on any solid formula they have basically just asked the team which games they liked the best that were released in 2008. Then they put them all together and ranked them accordingly… simple really and it has thrown up some odd surprises.

For example Tomb Raider has made it in at number 19 even though it didn’t receive the best of reviews, MGS4 only managed to sneak in at number 30 even though they gave it a fantastic review. Resistance 2 only just snuck into the top 50 and for the life of me I can’t find Call of Duty World at War.

Click here to see the top 10 list and I have added them after the break along with the console breakdown for the people to lazy to click through and read all those words.

10. World of Goo Wii
9. Guitar Hero World Tour (Rockband 2 came in 12th) Wii Xbox 360 PS3
8. Gears of War 2 Xbox 360
7. Left 4 Dead Xbox 360
6. Geometry Wars 2 (I found nothing exciting about this) Xbox 360
5. Braid Xbox 360
4. Fable II Xbox 360
3. GTA IV Xbox 360 PS3
2. Fallout 3 Xbox 360 PS3

and the Eurogamer game of the year was

1. LittleBigPlanet PS3

I disagree with a few of those entries personally and would have placed MGS4, Resistance 2 and COD5 further up and wouldn’t have LBP above Fallout 3 at least. Also where on earth is Prince of Persia?

The fact that GTA4 is as high as 3 already tells me the list is dodgy. But i can almost agree with LBP, that’s definitely in the top 3.

MGS4 deserved a higher spot. I think 3rd for GTA is fair, and having never played LBP, I cant really comment on it.

I quite liked GTA IV – good story line, great characters, loads of online modes – so I’m glad it got recognition.

GTA shouldn’t be 2nd and MGS4 should be in the top 3.

I agree with LBP though. I truly deserves the top position
