Everyone killed the civilians in the airport

I feel like I am on of the few people around who felt that the airport scene in Modern Warfare 2 was unnecessary and devalued the game somewhat.

If you don’t know what the airport scene is then I wouldn’t recommend clicking through and reading the rest of this story though I have a feeling the headline may have ruined it for you already.

Now don’t get me wrong I enjoyed killing the civilians just as much as the next guy but it all felt a little to canned for my liking, the idea was really good but the execution missed the mark.

Oh wait are trying to say that you didn’t kill the civilians in the airport? Well that would put you in the minority then.

According to Jesse Stern, MW2 and NCIS scriptwriter, every single one of the testers opened fire in the airport after expressing anger, sadness or disgust because apparently it’s human nature to slaughter civilians.

What I found really interesting is that there were 3 separate ways to complete that stage, you could either join in with the terrorists and shoot the civilians, else you could hang back and not shoot. Or you could turn your weapons on your fellow terrorists.. I have to be honest and say that I never thought of that last option, it seems so simple now that he says it though.

But don’t feel bad, if you attacked your fellow terrorists they would turn and kill you and you would have to do it all over again…

We see worse on the news eveyday. Politicians want us to send our kids to war to fight these monsters but they dont want those kids seeing this in their 18 rated games? Go figure! The scene was skipable by the way so i dont see the problem.

We need to remember that we all knew it was coming, I think for people who had it jumped on them by surprised reacted differently, maybe just shooting civilians for fear of screwing up or blowing the undercover thing, which is what would happen in real life quite often, people suddenly kick into a mode of self preservation and do some bad things without thinking

I haven’t tried MW2 yet, but I like the concept of that level even if the execution is lacking (or so I’ve heard). I look forward to it.

It’s a game. A very good game. Yes i felt bad in the airport section and guess what i got my just deserves in the end. Life’s like a ammo case – you never know what you gonna get.

I think that the level was done pretty well as it is the real kicker to get the story going.

I didn’t shoot the tourists. Not because i had any qualms about it. I just figured that the game would penalise you in some way (The training stage did), so i thought that the aim was to pretend to be with the terrorists, so I shot and intentionally missed. (Yeah i gave it too much thought)

Then some tourists started going vigilante and started shooting at me, so i killed all the armed ones.

It would have been nice if the ending of the level had alternate endings for kill little-zero terrorists vs killing many.

I kinda thought the whole thing was a bit of a let down, great idea but the execution fails in the end, if you are going to put someone in that situation you really need to give them more choice, and they need a story that supports those choices which unfortunately they didn’t have. But after I found out that deciding to shoot the terrorists instead just resulting in my death and restarting the level it kinda sucked, I also think there was a lack of directive from the terrorists as to what one should be doing, maybe a little half cut scene where your told to finish off some woman lying bleeding on the floor or something, even if they just spoke to you instead it all just feels a bit antiquated in that they expect you to follow suite and shoot people. if you just follow them around not shooting it’s not the same either. So no I didn’t feel bad, about shooting anyone in that level, but what i did feel bad about is that IW didn’t make nearly as much of that as they could have.

Only got the game yesterday, but I’ve already decided on skipping the level when I get the option to do so.

I loved it – I’m only on my 2nd play through of the sp campaign – but have played this level over and over again.

weel, I killed the terrorist on the first run,
