With December just around the corner, most of the big games are out. There’s very little left to still be released, with just Ubisoft’s The Crew coming next week as far as real new releases go. Barring all of the stuff you’ll be buying on sale over the next few days, you’ve likely made your gaming purchases for the year.
Which were the best and worst games you’ve purchased this year? They needn’t even be games from this year – if you’ve bought something this year, even something from Good Old Games vast catalogue of classics, tell us! I’ve bought very few games this year, though the standout ones that I’ve spent good money on have to be Shadow of Mordor – which I thoroughly enjoyed – and PvZ: Garden Warfare, which is a terribly underrated co-operative shooter. I bought, and loved the hell out of Super Smash Bros on the 3DS. There’s also Dragon Age: Inquisition which is sitting on my desk right now, not having even touched my console yet. I’m certain it’ll be the best game I’ll play all year once I finally settle in and explore everything Thedas has to offer.
As for the rubbish? You tell us.
The year’s not quite done, but it’s nearly at an end. What’s the best and worst gaming you’ve done this year?

UbiArts. That’s like the artsy brother of Ubisoft that the family doesn’t talk about much and is referred to only as the “creative one”.

The worst is easy… Homefront. What a kak game. The only good thing about it is you can finish it in under 4 hours. The Rise of the Triad remake isn’t particularly good, but it’s not terrible – Shadow Warrior, which I’m busy with now, is a far better remake though.
Warframe has been my favourite find this year – closing in on 350 hours now.
I’ve played a few indies lately that I’ve enjoyed – Stanley Parable, Contrast & A Story About My Uncle.
Mars: War Logs is also a pretty good little low budget RPG. Only about 10 hours long & you won’t replay it unless you’re achievement hunting, but it’s got a decent story & doesn’t drag.
Can’t remember what else I’ve played this year – 2/3 months back is my limit.

I’ll go back to the closet. Door achievement? I may have. Can’t remember.

I am going to ruffle some feathers here….. (And it is really how I feel)
Seeing as I only played The Last of Us remastered this year that wins by ‘n country mile, Trine 2 is then second…
But for this years releases:
Destiny was by far the best, the controls is enough for it to win my prize!!
Shadow of Mordor is my worst, its controls and story is killing me!! I have still to go back to it to try and get more than 5 hours in to it…..
This is also the year that I have bought the least amount of games in the last 10 years!!

SoM wasn’t the worst for me, but it was a bit underwhelming. The story was so terribly bland. But the gameplay was fun, although it got repetitive after a while. I started Witcher 2 right after I finished SoM and it’s unbelievable what a good story can do for a game. Plus there’s no repetition in W2
Jonah Cash
November 28, 2014 at 10:55
As I said I didn’t buy a lot of games this year, but SoM is my bottom game for the year!!
Captain JJ the fair

That and also Aiden’s as bleak as a monday. The story is poorly-portrayed imo and the biggest mistake was that game mechanics were eye-candy based, in a game they downgraded graphically, which makes no sense but hey, Ubisoft.

Ubisoft forgot that humans can smell passion and pride from a mile away. Watchdogs was created by bots. Too many cooks all pissing in the soup.

Child of Light should be an example to the Ubisoft share holders of how its supposed to be done.

Best Game: The Last of us Remastered. The story was amazing.
Worst Game: FIFA 15, because I really suck at it, and everyone beats me.
I am currently playing DA:I and so far that could become my best game of the year.

best so far it has to go to DA inquisition…
worst simply because it never lived up to how awesome the concept is, and still a rather sore sport for me, Destiny

Best- shadow of mordor
Worst – thief, although dragon age inquisition is broken for me (all my save files hot corrupted twice). So I guess those 2 can share it.

Best game? Hmmm… That’s a real toughy… Coz there’ve been quite a few contenders this year for best game… And all for different reasons. If I absolutely HAD to choose only 1, then it would probably be:
Best game = Dragon Age: Inquisition (although special mention to The Last of Us and Forza Horizon 2).
Worst game? That’s easy. It’s:
Worst game = Rambo: The Video Game (biggest load of twaddle… Rambo is ashamed!!).

Civ BE = best and worst??? Love/hate relationship?

I have played 90 hours, so feel I know the game. Essentially, they took Civ V, reskinnned it, removed all the victory conditions, left the diplomacy the same. Spying is ok.
BUT each victory is build something, wait twenty turns.
I feel the game had a lot of good in it, BUT a lot of meh as well.

Try Endless Legend out. Really, beats Civ:BE for me by far. 🙂

That’s sad to hear about Beyond Earth. I was really looking forward to getting it. The first Deus Ex is still my favoured, but HR is great.

One expansion pack should solve a lot. Like civ v to be honest. Back in 2010

I haven’t played V yet and I’m considering getting it. How’s the political/religion take-overs? I sometimes like to take other approaches rather than just bombing everyone.

I finally got bullet storm and it made me giggle like a little girl. It had a ton of issues but I really had fun with it. So that goes as my best game for pure fun and it was like R50.

Best: Bioshock Infinite Burial at Sea EP2, Valiant Hearts, Shadow of Mordor
Worst: I try not to buy into hype before reviews come out, so I don’t own bad games. 🙂 I’d be upset if I bought AC Unity or Watch Dogs though.
Most disappointing: Far Cry 4 on PC. Now I know why the console reviews came out before PC – because it’s a mess on AMD hardware and the co-op is broken. But the actual game itself is good. Hard to hate it.

Best game for me this year is Wasteland 2. Its reasonably close to what I wanted fallout 3 to be.
