Fighters Uncaged – Kinect gets its own fighting game

FightersUncaged

The Wii has Wii Boxing, which is pretty ridiculous. The PS3 has The Fight which from our hands on is pretty abysmal and now Kinect has Fighters Uncaged.

The trailer looks okay, but lets be honest here for a bit. This game is supposed to be debuting in November and yet it wasn’t even teased at E3 this year, it’s from an unknown developer (no offense) and to perform super moves you need to shout something at the TV.

As much as I would love a game like this to be awesome I just don’t see it happening… Please prove me wrong AMA Studios, the idea is incredibly enticing.

This might actually make me want to get kinect. I do a bit of martial arts so id be very keen to try this out. But then again…this is targeting a casual market so i assume your movements will be very basic.

OMG! On-rail fighting, how cute! Kinect: It only does rails!

MS is truly scraping the barrel with Kinect. I wonder how much the input lag is? Nice idea though, but hardly worthy of the $40 or $60 price tag.

Anyway, the opening bit actually reminded me of Def Jam Vendetta 1 and 2 on the PS2, arguably two of the best fighting/wrestling games ever created (…well… before EA decided it had to destroy something awesome by releasing that crap in a bag, the dreadful Def Jam Icon, and thus killing the franchise in one fell swoop).

I wonder why so few companies uses Aki for their grappling game expertise any more? But.. I digress.

Def Jam Vendetta 1 and 2 for PS2. If you can find either of them in a bargain bin, give them a try or check at your local Mr Video or Vees, they generally have them available for rental.

I was sceptical at first as well, since I’m not a huge fan of gangster rap or hip hop, but the focus isn’t on the music, but rather on fighting and grappling. Which incidentally is superb in both titles.

By the way, the second Def Jam is called Def Jam: fight for NY and as much as it sounds like a bad joke, it’s actually a very solid fighting game.

Yeah when I first played Def Jam 2 I was very surprised at how much fun it actually was, the story was whack as well lol. Snoop Dogg as the evil bad guy was awesome. It was pretty much the first proper MMA game, and was a little bit ahead of its time in that regard.

As for this Kinect thing… if it doesn’t do 1 to 1 movement, and just activates moves and animations in the game, then I couldn’t care less to be honest, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Did you watch the trailer? dude does a fully-body spinning kick while resting on one arm. if that’s 1 to 1, there’s only a handful of people who can actually play the game.

Plus, I don’t want to be spin-0kicking anywhere near my tv. 😛

lol Nick, don’t forget that Snoop Dogg was incredibly fast, and he could reverse your moves with ease – I think I’m going to dig through the game vault and play it tonight. I loved the finishing moves for that game.

PS: I hope that Kinect games comes with a little warning sticker: Spinning capoeira-like drop kicks may be potentially fatal to cats and TVs. Chuck Norris will not be pleased!

I never got to play the old Def Jams i only got to play Def Jam Icon. Which to be honest was pretty poor. But still cool way you could sign rappers to your music label. And the soundtrack in the game was decent.

Def Jam Icon was terrible. It single-handedly killed a franchise. If you still have a PS2, I would highly recommend taking Icon to BT games and exchange it for either Def Jam 1, Def Jam 2 or both.

Eye Toy Play was “off rails”, but you were left waving your arms like a retard and oddly that’s what Microsoft thinks is the future of gaming.

Well it was pretty much shit but it did have a really good soundtrack. I dont own a ps2 iam a xbot lol. And we dont have a BT games here in Ireland but we do have GAME and Xtravision. And dont worry I traded in that game years ago in my local Xtravision.

Otherwise, you could try a PS2 emulator and just buy the game from GAME, HMV or second hand from Xtravision. Emulators are not illegal though, but downloading the game ROMs is (although check first, it might be different in Ireland, emulation might be criminalized).
